FOTD: Diorskin Airflash CC Primer

I used the new Diorskin Airflash CC Primer for this FOTD, to see how it would hold up on my oily skin. It claims to add a ‘radiance’ to your skin while prepping it for foundation application. The color really is universal (it goes on white and blends out sheer), and honestly I initially didn’t see the ‘radiance’ that it was claiming. But apparently, the camera saw it just fine.

I used it ‘all over’ this time. I think in the future, I might just limit the radiance to the center of my face, and go around the edges with a bronzer.

*I found that on my oily skin, the CC Cream encourages oil production… and may eventually break the normal finish of the Airflash Foundation (which I never need to touch up). I blotted heavily once halfway through the day (during 10 hours of wear) and it seemed to hold up after that until I took it off. But that halfway point, when I blotted, I was VERY oily. The oil production didn’t break the foundation, but it made me look REALLY shiny and overdone (like I should have an an evening dress or something). I’m on the fence about using these products together. I feel like they work better when being used with other products. I don’t use a primer with the Airflash Foundation, and it holds beautifully. The addition of a primer (even from the same brand) may be a little too much for my oily skin to handle.*

FOTD: PHAME Expo 2013

The first PHAME (Professional Hair and Makeup Expo) got underway today. Now that IMATS has morphed into… well… something else, this pro-invite event lured several hundred makeup adventure seekers to Pasadena to see what’s what.

Now, it’s 100+ degrees these days (no… really), so I was not interested in wearing anything that would crease, run or otherwise make me look like a melted ice cream cone. So I kept it clean:

FOTD: NORDSTROM Trend Event – Spring/Summer 2013

I went to the Nordstrom Trend Event this morning… and I needed to look the part. Hundreds of women descended on Topanga Mall today (from away as New York) to attend this event. So I dug out my Burberry Foundation and went to work:

FOTD: The Makeup Show LA

I got up bright and early for The Makeup Show this morning… and wanted to put my best face forward. I wanted to go for an orange ‘glow’ (you know orange is my color) without the shine. I blended a highlighter in my foundation, which caused a bit of flashback in the camera, but it looked natural outside in the sun, and under artificial lights in the show.

January Favorites

I thought I’d start a ‘favorites’ series for 2013… and highlight one item from each category of any given beauty routine.

So here are my January Favorites:

Skin: Koh Gen D Oriental Plants Balm

This stuff is so good. I use it for just about everything now, from emergency eye cream and lip balm, to a little TLC for clients with really dry skin. It’s amazing. It’s light and versatile and has become an absolute keeper for me.

Foundation: Dior Skin NUDE

My skin has been up, down, and all around the briar patch… and it’s just not behaving right now. Dior Skin NUDE foundation keeps it looking hydrated and smooth. And because I’ve been dry lately (instead of my normal oily self), it stays put with no problem.

Powder: Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder

I’ve made no secret of my absolute love for this product. A little bit goes such a long way. It sets my foundation without ‘adding’ to anything on my face. Definite keeper.

Mascara: Chanel Volume de Chanel Mascara

This stuff is amazing. I seriously can’t believe how awesome this mascara is. Chanel really hit this one out of the park. They need to just discontinue all those other formulas and just keep this one. It’s absolutely fabulous.

Lip Gloss: Haughty Cosmetics Polish It Off

I’ve been using this stuff nearly every day, like it is just going out of style. Polish it off is the most perfect nude… ever. Although it’s a gloss, the formula is totally opaque so my lips don’t shine through. And it’s completely weightless. I love this lip gloss. At the rate I’m going, I’ll need to get another tube soon. Just this gloss and a little mascara… and I’m good to go.

Those are my January Favorites! Ciao for now!
