Guerlain SS/16: Terracotta Bronze

I’m a little late putting this up… what with Mother’s Day weekend and what not. Guerlain released its latest addtion to the LE Terraccotta Bronzers and this one does not disappoint. It’s darker than it’s predecessors, and leans more toward Terracotta Brunettes. In the past, there’s been a distinct ‘pink’ hue to the bronze portion, but this one is very brown and slightly orange, with a coral highlight and a gold overlay.

The brush is sold separately and is totally not necessary but c’mon look at it! Sooo pretty. A girl and her makeup…

The outer color is on the left, and the coral center on the right. Until that gold shimmer fotd guerlain bronze 1comes off (I might just get rid of it completely before using it again), the finish is VERY golden.

It lends a ‘soft focus’ to the face that’s really beautiful. On my warm skin it’s more complementary than contrast. But I recommend getting rid of the golden overlay so that you can harness the full potential of this bronzer. Otherwise you end up with more gold than anything else.

Why are my brows bushy again? I JUST got them done last week. SMH I blame yoga. You know inversions make the blood rush to your hair follicles and hairs just grow all disrespectful and out of control. Damn Downward Facing Dog. Thank goodness I don’t have a beard ’cause I’d be a straight cave woman by now…

FOTD: Color blocking

Okay, for some reason I had in my head that I wanted to ‘color block’ my eyes. I chose coral and purple to get the job done. Here’s what happened:

Illamasqua Skin Base (#14)
Guerlain Terracotta Bronzer in 01 (as powder)
Armani Sheer Bronzer in #2 (as blush)
MAC Paint Pot in Coral Crepe (lids)
MAC Pigment in Electric Coral (lids)
Chanel Vanities/dark purple (crease/under waterline)
Chanel Vanities/light purple (above crease)
Bobbi Brown Violet Gel Liner (lashline)
Sumita Eye Pencil (waterline)
Chanel Intimitable Intense Mascara in Purple
Kate Spade Supercalifragilipstick in Bashful Blush

FOTD: Pale Stuff

Using only the ‘pale’ portions of the new NARS Autumn 2011 Collection… I gingerly pulled together a pale face. I have to be careful with pale colors on my warm skin tone… as there is a fine line between ‘pale’ and ‘ashy’…

Illamasqua Skin Base (#14)
Guerlain Terracotta Bronzer in Clair
NARS Orgasm Blush
Rock & Republic Eyeshadow in Tribal (brows)
NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Grand Palais (pale color only)
Le Metier de Beaute Eyeshadow in Peachy Keen (browbone)
Napoleon Perdis China Doll Eyeliner (lashline)
Chanel Eye Pencil in Rose Platine (waterline)
Maybelline Falsies Mascara
NARS Lipstick in Pago Pago

FOTD: Terracotta (again)

Eh, I’m in a Guerlain kind of mood. So I used mostly items from the Summer 2011 collection to bring together this look:

Guerlain Cream Eyeshadow in Maya (lids)
Guerlain Cream Eyeshadow in Bahia (browbone)
Guerlain Terracotta Kohl in Black Fakir (waterline)
Armani Eyes To Kill Mascara
Guerlain Tinted Moisturizer (brunettes)
Guerlain Terracotta Bronzer in Clair 01
Guerlain Terra Inca Radiant Powder
Chanel Lip Pencil in Peche
Guerlain Rouge Automatique in Jicky

FOTD: Surf Baby

No swatches yet (I have to take a couple of them again)… but I did do a face with my Surf Baby products:

Guerlain Terra Inca Radiant Powder (lashline to brow)
MAC Eyeshadow in Sun Blonde (lashline to socket bone)
Guerlain Loose Kohl in Brun Dore (waterline)
Sleek eyeshadow in Stone (brows)
Buxom Mascara

La Prairie Anti-Age Hydra Tint (#40)
Guerlain Terracotta Bronzer (Clair 01)
MAC Cheek Powder in My Paradise
MAC Lipstick in Hibiscus

FOTD: Terre Indigo

For Mother’s Day (night) out… I wanted to do a bit more. Sheesh did I do a bit more! I dug into the Terre Indigo eyeshadow palette. Those colors are SO pigmented, and ought to be handled with caution!

Guerlain Terre Indigo Eyeshadow Palette:
Orange (lids)
Gold (crease to browbone)
Blue (crease and underwaterline)
Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Deviant
Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara
Dior Skin NUDE Foundation (051)
Chanel Loose Powder (Dore)
Rock & Republic Blush in Immoral
Guerlain Terra Inca Radiant Powder (highlight)
Guerlain Terracotta Lip Gloss in 08

Lip Service. Guerlain Jicky & Terracotta 08

I finally managed to get another one of the Guerlain Rouge Automatique Lipsticks. The color ‘Jicky’ looks really brown in the tube, but goes on a sheer brownish nude. Love it! Check it out:

Looks DARK right? It’s not. It goes on a sheer lip tone… and is so moisturizing! I really think Guerlain hit it out of the park with these lipsticks. They are really awesome.

Gorgeous, right? I love it. You can put this one on in the dark. It jsut gives your lips an extra ‘lift’ without adding too much color. No shimmer.. this is totally creamy looking. It’s like your lips on their best day!

I also got an ‘in person’ look at the Guerlain Terra Inca Collection. They just killed it for summer. I dare say this is my favorite collection of all the major brands. I ended up with the Terracotta Lip Gloss in 08. From packaging to performance, this gloss just exceeds expectations:

The tube is so pretty. I really prefer these tubes over the regular Guerlain glosses. They’re like little treasures. Just beautiful.

Ya’ll know I’m a sucker for a good orange lippie. This one has an almost ‘liquid’ feel to it. Non sticky and just so flattering. Love!

Just a little lip service on a Friday. Ciao for now!

FOTD: Sheer Green

Quick face today for an afternoon with the in-laws. We’ll probably be outdoors all day, so I wanted something ‘shine-friendly.’

Guerlain Terracotta Bronzer in 01
Guerlain Terra Inca Radiant Powder (as blush/highlight)
MAC Paint Pot in Moss Scape (base)
Chanel Quint (olive green) from lashline to brow
Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Zero
Besame 1930’s Mascara
Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Canotier

FOTD: Bright Grey

It’s a gloomy day in Southern California today. But I still dug into the new summer colors from Chanel. For today’s face, I used two colors from the Lilium Quad:

Lord help the shiny children! Whyyyyyyyy did all that shine show up? My goodness, the flash is my enemy, I swear. The actual (real life) finish was soft, not shiny. Anyway, here’s what I used:

Guerlain Parure Extreme (Dore 24)
Guerlain Terracotta (Clair 01)
Chanel Blush in Rose Temptation
Chanel Lilium Quad:
Shimmer Pink from lashline to browbone
Shimmer Lavender/Grey on lids
Chanel Eye Pencil in Rose Platine (waterline/underwaterline)
Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara
Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Deauville

Glow On: Guerlain Terracotta

I have to give credit where credit is due… an internet lipstick junkie named Shontay asked me about Guerlain Bronzers… and I had to tell her that I’d actually never used them. As much as I love the brand, I’d never picked up one of those lovely Terracotta Bronzers to see what they could do.

Naturally… I had to go and see if I was missing anything. Boy, was I missing a lot!

As a woman of color, I don’t hunt down many ‘bronzing’ products… as I’ve already been blessed with a lovely tan. But I do use bronzers to even out skin tone, add shadow, or give myself a fake ‘glow’ for the day. So I hit the Guerlain counter to look at their Terracotta Bronze Collection for Summer 2011. I admit to being a little overwhelmed because I don’t know that the selection really makes sense.

I ended up with Clair, which is in the ‘blonde’ category. But Clair 01 is a perfect match for my skin tone. These are VERY dark.. all of them. I wasn’t interested in going darker than my skin tone… just looking for a glow. Clair is matte… so I also got 03, which is a shimmer version:

Clair 01 is on the left… and 03 is on the right.
Clair 01
For today’s running around… I decided to use both. I used 01 as a pressed powder, and 03 as ‘color’ for my cheeks and eyes.

The flash made me a LOT more shiny than I actually looked in real life. But I loved the effect. The powder actually gives ‘coverage’… like sheer to medium I can’t believe I’ve been sleeping on these bronzers. LOVE THEM. On the rest of my face is YSL Waterproof Eye Pencil, Armani Eyes To Kill Mascara, and Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Misia.

If I had a complaint, it would be that the compacts are REALLY slim. I can’t imagine that you’d get much product in such skinny packaging. The compacts are gorgeous though. They’d be like a little gem in your makeup bag. They also don’t come with a brush or a puff or anything. I never use puffs anyway, but a brush would have been nice, especially for $45 a pop.

Despite product size and lack of applicator, I still love them. They’re keepers.
