So… MAC quickly replaced my busted pigment stack of Surf The Ocean. I’m really surprised and pleased by their service and fast response on this matter. I called them about it late last week… and it arrived today!
Now, some of you guys had complained about the gold pigment being ‘melted’ — mine was too. I found that if you just smash it around, it goes back to looking like the others. I think MAC is experimenting with this new ‘wet’ pigment formula… it may take some time before they get it right. I do like the pigmentation level on these new formulas though; they have more depth.
My swatches on both pigment stacks are a little ‘bumpy’ — because I’m still getting used to the formula. You have to really smooth these out. I did better when I put them on my eyes. I also found that you don’t need much at ALL to really blend out and create a beautiful look.
One side note: did you guys notice this?
A special note to those looking to create any lip glosses or colors with these pigments… DON’T. I don’t know what they’ll do to your lips. But you have been warned.
It’s taken me forever to decide to purchase and review the pigments from the MAC’s Surf Baby collection. For one thing, the casing is totally impractical. And the pigments aren’t traditional… they’re ‘wet’ so they take a bit of practice to apply. But after a lot of back and forth I finally purchased Summer Stash and Surf The Ocean. The latter has to be replaced… the casing was cracked and pigment had spilled all over the box. MAC is supposed to be replacing it. 2-3 business days or some such.
Anyway, onto Summer Stash:
Peachy Old Wine
This is my favorite of the two stacks. Surf the Ocean is nice, but I feel like Summer Stash is richer in tone and texture. I particularly LOVE Old Wine, which I wore in my latest FOTD.
I just went back to the MAC website and it looks like these pigment stacks are sold out AGAIN.They keep coming and going. Hopefully, they’ll be able to replace my Surf The Ocean stack by next week. When they do, I’ll swatch it then. Ciao for now!
I’m a regular fan of ‘brightening’ eye pencils; I bought backups of Guerlain’s retractable gold pen, and I absolutely LOVE Chanel’s Rose Platine pencil. So when MAC introduced the ‘Gilded White’ pencil, I had to see it for myself:
It’s supposed to be a ‘white gold’ pencil… but it looked more white than gold to me. When I swatched it, it came out ‘white’ under the flash.
I did notice that it came out more of a pale gold in natural light. I can’t wait to road test this little beauty!
I’m not sure how this worked out. It seemed like a good idea at the time:
Now, the flash just ATE the reflects antique gold… but it’s there. I was sparkling all freakin’ day. Eventually, I gotta get a light kit or something because the flash is just the death of some of these looks. *sigh* Anyway, here’s what I used:
Armani Silk Eyeshadow in #13 (lids)
MAC Reflects Antique Gold (lids)
Armani Mediterranean Palette:
Bronze in the crease
Pink on the browbone
Stila Smudgestick in Onyx (waterline)
Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara
Guerlain Paurue Extreme (Dore 24)
MAC Cheek Color in My Paradise
Shiseido Lip Crayon in LC5
MAC’s Surf Baby collection seems to have come and gone in a matter of minutes. There is high demand for what I feel is the Crown Jewel in the collection: ‘My Paradise’ Cheek Color. Since it’s sold out online (and is bound to do the same in stores), I thought I’d give everyone the chance to win one.
Same drill as always: You must be a public follower to qualify. Although you can’t see the followers (GFC is a piece of crap these days), I can still see you on my dashboard.
