FOTD: Extreme Highlight

I think I’m wearing about 15 pounds of makeup in this FOTD… I was trying to make a point. You should know that I blended the HECK out of everything… and still in the pictures, you can see parts that look like they need a little more. This was a bit of a lesson for me. Despite the many layers of concealer and highlighter, the makeup still came out looking pretty natural in real life. However, the flash on my camera lit me in most UNNATURAL fashion:

Le Metier de Beaute Peau Vierge (03)
Le Metier de Beaute Classic Flawless Finish Foundation (11)
MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer in NC42 (under eyes)
By Terry Touche Veloute (under eyes/around nose)
Cargo Blush in Laguna
Chanel Blush in Or (highlight)
Louise Young Eyeshadow in Pom Pom/BlackBear (brows)
MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre (lashline to brow)
MAC Pigment in Lithe (lashline to brow)
Guerlain Kohl in Black Frida (waterline/tightline)
Smoke & Mirrors Beauty Las Vegas Lashes
MAC Lip Pencil in Mouth Off
Armani Lip Gloss in Brown 200
Now, all of this drama was for my Wedding Anniversary (6 years), so as soon as I got finished playing in makeup… hubby and I hopped over to one of our favorite restaurants: Vibrato Jazz & Grill.
Took us FOREVER to get a freakin’ picture together with at least PART of our faces in it. He finally told me to use this one, even though you can only see a little bit of him.

Our talent for the evening was a lovely lady from Iceland… who had the most amazing voice. I’m always blown away by the ‘control’ needed to really hold a jazz note. Her performance was exquisite. I think the two people sitting there in front were on a first date. Hubby and I did a  bit of ‘people watching’ , and we’re pretty sure it was their first time out together.

Of note: Tom Jones was there to eat and relax. My mother-in-law is going to LOVE that when I tell her. Our songstress tried to get him to come up and sing, but he declined. We applauded him anyway.

All in all, it was a good night, and a great Anniversary. We’ll do it again next year!

Cirque du Soleil: IRIS

While many of you Divas were out cutting up and shopping to your heart’s content for Fashion’s Night Out ( I wanted to go out… but passed for a worthy cause)…

I was in a theater, taking in Cirque Du Soleil: IRIS:

It was hubby’s birthday, so I took him to the show as a gift. Since he’s a filmmaker, it’s only natural that he’d be attracted to a show about a journey through the world of cinema. It was QUITE the spectacle… we really had a good time.

For the show, I wanted to do something a little ‘Old Hollywood’ with a shimmery twist. It didn’t quite work out that way. I ended up with lush lashes and a berry lip. Ah well, it was close enough:

Guerlain Parure Extreme (Dore 24)
Kevyn Aucoin Diaphonous Radiance Powder
Chanel Blush in Rose Ecrin
Armani Eyes To Kill Silk Eyeshadow in #9 (lashline to brow)
Anastasia Matte Brow Highlight (browbone)
Louise Young Eyeshadow in Maowi (brows)
Napoleon Perdis China Doll Eyeliner (lashline)
Stila Smudge Stick in Stone (waterline)
Smoke & Mirrors Beauty New York City Lash

Guerlain Rouge G in #70
Beaute Lip Gloss in Allure

FOTD: Sheer Coral

It’s hot as Hades outside… and I just wanted to work ‘with’ my skin. Any kind of fancy makeup would end up just sliding off me. So I’m not fighting nature today…

Illamasqua Skin Base (sheered out) in #15
Armani Blushing Fabric in #1
Louise Young Eyeshadow in Maowi (brows)
MAC Paint Pot in Coral Crepe (all over)
MAC Pigment in Electric Coral (on lids/under waterline)
Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Underground
Smoke & Mirrors New York City Lash
MAC Opulash (bottom lashes)
YSL Gloss Pur in #8

Ready… Set… Smoke & Mirrors Beauty!

Most of you already know by now how much I love Smoke & Mirrors lashes. Really… there’s no comparison. In terms of weight, feel, and finish… Smoke & Mirrors Beauty is miles ahead of the competition.

But I must admit, I’m a creature of habit. I only wear the New York City Lash (my hands down favorite) and the Hollywood Lash.

In an attempt to pull me out of my comfort zone, Smoke & Mirrors Beauty sent me the entire regular lineup (minus the Heart Lash, which is ever sold out):

Long and Spiky. The jury is still out.
New York City:
Soft finish and ‘how the hell did you get your lashes to grow like that’… my absolute favorite.
Normally not a fan of this lash shape… but I’m up for the challenge.
Dead ringer for Naimies False lash in #747 Small… without the $1.49 price tag.
Las Vegas:
Hmm… might be my next favorite. A little longer than New York City, but still with that lovely finish.
My faves behind New York City. Perfect for dramatic nights out, when you want to channel your inner
These pulled me right out of my comfort zone.
Spiky … but still really soft and feminine… and wear like a DREAM.
There they are! I tried the Miami lashes first because I was the most skeptical about them… and they ROCK. I’ve never been a fan of spiky false lashes, especially for regular wear. Spiky lashes tend to look fake, and unless I’m doing a concept look… I want my lashes to look as lush and ‘natural’ as possible.
I’ve been a fan of this brand since I was first introduced to it a couple of years ago (has it been that long?)… and I’m sure my love affair won’t be ending any time soon. They feel great on, and they really ‘enhance’ your face without overwhelming it. They give versions from MAC and Make Up For Ever a serious run for their money.
Now, if I could just get them to offer a professional discount…

You can get Smoke & Mirrors Beauty Lashes on their website:

Armani Blushing Fabric (Sienna)
MAC Eyeshadow in Studied Brown (brows)

Medium Green in Crease
Darkest Green on lid and under waterline
Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Zero (waterline)

Practical Application: Smoke & Mirrors False Lashes

I REALLY wanted to see how the New York City Lashes performed. They’re even better than I expected:

I didn’t want to ruin ’em with glue so I just used the adhesive that every falsie sort of comes with. So if you see them lifting a bit in the corners… that’s why. I’m too cheap to use ’em just for the picture and not wear them out! lol
Anyway, here’s the rest of it:

Chanel Mat Lumiere
By Terry Touche Veloutee
Chanel Blush in Espeigle
Cargo Lumieres Palette (dark brown shadow)
Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Zero
Smoke & Mirrors New York City Lashes
Buxom Mascara (bottom lashes)
MAC Cremesheen Gloss in Overindulgence

Covet Worthy: Smoke & Mirrors False Lashes

For many makeup artists, relevance and career growth sometimes hinges on the release of a product line. It’s nearly the next logical step. Plenty of makeup artists have begun their own makeup lines, skin care lines (raising hand) and makeup tools lines.

Stephen Moleski is no different. He catapulted to fame by doing this face:

I have to be honest: when I first heard that he was doing a line of lashes, I was like ‘Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.’ I live in Los Angeles; there’s a new HOT thing that you just must have every day of the week. Eventually, you learn not to get caught up in the hype and choose your purchases carefully.
I ordered 2 pairs of the Hollywood Lashes about a year ago. I wore the last pair on New Year’s Eve:

…and I’ve been dying to get some new lashes from him ever since! So I ordered them last week… and they came today!

As you can see, I lost my mind a little bit. I LOVE the Hollywood Lash… but I also wanted to try the New York City Lash, which seems to be a shorter version. All his lashes are 100% Human Hair. They are totally light, and look so natural and awesome on. They’re not thick or heavy or ‘fake’ looking. That’s why I love them so much.

You can get these lovely lashes at

One pair of these lashes will be paid forward in an upcoming giveaway. Details coming soon!
