Professional Grade: Photoshoot @ Smashbox Studios

A Facebook message from a friend informed me that he had a shoot at Smashbox Studios and he needed a Makeup Artist… STAT. Could I pack up and head out as quickly as my Prius would carry me?

There’s the top of my Liz. She needs a bath… poor thing. She’s getting detailed this weekend, so she’ll just have to look a wreck for a couple more days.

They had this fantastic little sitting area inside… I thought it was worth a picture. The background is ‘color bars’ … like you’d see when a television signal is up, but there’s no picture. Love that idea.

Anyway, onto work…
Six women showed up for the shoot; I worked on three of them. I understand that the project is for Steppin’ Out Magazine so if there are tear sheets or published photos… you guys know I’ll post them here on the blog.

Here are the women I worked on:

She is not used to wearing a lot of makeup, especially around her eyes. So I took her out of her comfort zone with lots of black and purple. She was blown away (maybe not in a good way. LOL) but when the other ladies showed up, they fawned over her and demanded that I do their makeup the same way!

But I couldn’t, because everyone needed to look unique. So I did what I thought looked best on each person.

Unlike Violet, Merilee is used to LOTS of black around her eyes. She loves a dramatic eye… so I took her out of her comfort zone and gave her something minimal and polished. At first, she was a bit hesitant… but she soon warmed up to the idea and ended up loving her look.

The youngest (and most adventurous) of the three… Capri was down for whatever. She just sat there and let me put makeup on her face… trusting that I wouldn’t make her look a mess.

After I finished with their makeup, I went out onto the set to see how the shoot was going. They looked like they were having a blast, so I took some random photos of the process…

All in all, it was a good day. I crawled home exhausted, but happy to have been part of the process. I’m sooooo sleeping in this weekend. It’s been one heck of a week.
