Beauty Breakdown: Contoured Natural

The first in a series of pictures have come back from the recent shoot I did with Nadirah Bahar and Edo. I wanted to keep some of the shots as ‘natural’ as possible (we were shooting in natural lighting with no additional ‘help’ from artificial light sources, but I still wanted to emphasize Edo’s incredible bone structure with a little contour.

Becca Radiant Skin Satin Finish Foundation (Amber)

I know that I just screamed from the rooftops all the fabulous things about Becca Luminous Skin Colour…
But the company recently released a new foundation (in a million shade ranges) that has more coverage, and a bit of a matte finish. I actually don’t know why it’s called ‘satin’ finish… this stuff’s totally matte on me.

I like it for coverage — and found that it’s best applied with fingers. I don’t think this foundation has a lick of SPF  in it (it’s not mentioned anywhere on the packaging, although titanium dioxide is listed in the ingredients)… so you’ll need to wear a sunscreen under it (which you should wear under foundation anyway). On the up side… no (or low) SPF means less likelihood of flashback.

I wore it a recent FOTD (with sunscreen under it) and it wore well for most of the day. I did start to get oily halfway through the day though.. so I had to blot.

March Favorites

Hey Guys! Here’s what’s making the top of my list in the month of March:

Dr. Perricone Blue Plasma
This stuff is amazing! I’ve been using it religiously as part of my nighttime skin care routine. It’s a non-irritating exfoliating serum… that ONLY targets dead skin cells. That means zero irritation for all you sensitive beauties out there. It works overnight, and plays very well with other skin care products.

Ellis Faas Skin Veil
I’ve been using this every day since I got it from The Makeup Show. It’s like a lighter version of Illamasqua Skin Base (which I love). It adheres to the skin, and imitates the look at feel of skin, so that you don’t look ‘made up.’

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (Ginger)
I’ve also been using this every day. One teeny dot under each eye does the trick. It sets beautifully and doesn’t crease or get ‘crepey’ throughout the day.

NARS Light Reflecting Powder
This is the lightest translucent powder I’ve used to date, that doesn’t give me that ‘white’ flashback that is typical of such finely milled white powders. The teeniest bit sets my foundation, and I’m good to go. I’ve found that I prefer the loose powder to the pressed version… there’s no shimmer and the finish is much more natural.

Armani Blushing Fabric
This formula works so well with the Ellis Faas foundation… it seems like they were made in the same place. It merges right in with the formula and imitates a natural ‘flush’ on my skin. I love it. Been using this religiously… I’m having a hard time choosing something else on a daily basis!

Tom Ford Lip Color Shine (Nubile)
This is such an easy color to wear, and the formula is excellent. It holds like a sheer lipstick, but feels like a soothing lip balm. Nubile has taken up permanent residence in my purse these days… I pull it out anytime I need to ‘freshen’ my face… and I don’t even need a mirror to do it. the color is very flattering and works well on my skin tone.

Sisley ‘So Intense’ Mascara
So far, so good with this one. It’s a great performing mascara, with the added benefit of ‘boosting’ lashes over time. I’ve been using it for about a week… but I want to wait a full 30 days before I absolutely swear by it. I love that it leaves my lashes soft (not crunchy) after wearing it all day. They do feel ‘softer’ — but the jury is still out on whether they’ve gotten any fuller.

CK One Nail Color (Romper Room)
I’ve been pressing a lot of palms lately (corporate madness), and I can’t be stressing about chipped nails and dark colors that are all wrong (and a bit off putting) for the average mucky  muck. So this nail polish is also bouncing around in my purse at the moment (just in case I need a touch up). The color is ‘so’ neutral that you  have to really look at my hands to see if I’m wearing any color. They just make my nails look polished and ‘presentable.’ It works.

That’s it! Those are my March Favorites… ciao for now!

Lip Service: Sisley Phyto Lip Gloss

I have found a new love. When Chris (Sisley) called me to tell me about the lipglosses, I was lukewarm about the idea. But I went to see them and try them for myself, and I have to say. I’m impressed.

The color that I loved best was #6 (rouge). It’s the most pigmented for my warm skin tone, and I was blown away by the pigment level in this little tube.

See? Insane pigment levels. Like a lipstick. Love it. And it’s TOTALLY non sticky. I may go back for a few more colors, but this will definitely hold me over for the time being.

Since Sisley = $$$, know that this little tube of heaven does not come cheap. I ponied up 50 smackers for it. So… yeah.

Blushed: Sisley Highlighter Blush with White Lily

This item is proof that I am attracted to all things pretty, regardless of their practicality. The new Sisley Highlighter Blush (limited edition Spring 2012) is GORGEOUS, although it swatches a pedestrian peachy pink with a subtle shimmer. I found out as much while swatching it in the store. I walked away from it (when I found out how much it cost), and came back a week later to find it sold out. Then the final shipment came in… and I was unable to resist leaving it in the store a second time.

From the Bloomingdales website:
“Sisley Paris L’Orchidee Highlighting Blush colors and lifts the complexion with an easy-to-apply luminous veil that can be endlessly adjusted. With just one sweep of the brush, the complexion is illuminated and evened out with a light, healthy glow.

The ultra-light and ultra-fine texture melts away into a soft and silky powder, offering light to medium coverage.

Anyway, the stock photo does it NO justice at ALL. It’s much darker in person, and would do well on fair to medium skintones.

So yeah… this is the most gorgeous blush I’ve EVER seen. With the exception of the purple touches in the middle (which is overspray), the rest of the design is baked into the pan. So you keep the shape of the orchid, and the colors in the orchid, pretty much all the way through.

Now, because of the overspray dealie, I have REFUSED to touch it. Refused. Can’t bring myself to swatch it just yet. I’ve actually considered going into the store, swatching it, and taking a picture. Seriously. Yes, I realize this is ridiculous. But I’d like to marvel at the blush just a bit longer before I destroy the pattern.

This blush is also expensive. Not as much as that By Terry $200 blush… but still up there. It retails for $108.

It’s a blush.

C’mon Sisley… it’s a BLUSH. The skin care, I can get behind. But a blush? I need some perspective here…

But wait, who am I kidding? Is the blush  not currently in my possession?

A mess and a shame.

FOTD: Sustainable Color

I used Sustainable (Kjaer Weis) and Vegan (Haughty Cosmetics) Color to complete this look:

Sisley Skinleya Cream Foundation (60)
Kevyn Aucoin Diaphonous Radiance Powder
Armani Blush in #6

Kjaer Weis Eyeshadow in Earthy Calm (crease)
Kjaer Weis Eyeshadow in Blue Wonder (lids)
By Terry Crayon Kohl Terrybly in Blue Vision (waterline)
Tarte Mascara
Haughty Cosmetics Lipgloss in Inspire

FOTD: Lagons

I have to take back what I said about Chanel Vanities being the most wearable of the two quads. Chanel Lagons is VERY wearable as well. I was impressed by the silkiness of the shadows and how effortlessly they blended together.

FOTD: Chanel Autumn 2011 (Topkapi)

I decided to go neutral-like for my first foray into Chanel’s Byzance collection. So I used three colors from the Topkapi quad to create this FOTD:

Kevyn Aucoin Diaphonous Radiance Powder
Rock & Republic Blush in Call Me
Sleek Contour (Dark)
Chanel Topkapi Quad:
