(CLOSED) HOLIDAY GIVEAWAY: LORAC Eye Candy Collection

I saw this and just HAD to do it for a giveaway. LORAC has released the coolest collection of eye and face colors, all packaged up to look like chocolate holiday candy.

I used the Sephora pictures for this because my pictures don’t even REMOTELY do justice to this collection. It is AMAZING. There are six ‘candy bars’ with four colors each. Each bar represents a different color scheme. I fell head over heels in love with this idea, and there was no way I was going to pass up an opportunity to pay it forward.

FOTD: Inspired by Pantone Universe

I saw this look on one of the Sephora reps for the Pantone Universe event. She placed the orange color in an odd place… above the inside crease. I LOVED it, and I figure that imitation is the best form of flattery…

Sephora + Pantone Universe

The basic notion of TIME has prevented me from seeing this collection before now. I got invited to a ‘pop up shop’ from Sephora, so I took the opportunity to finally get a gander at the collection firsthand.

From my cell phone. GORGEOUS day. The set up was pretty cool. They just took over the ‘park area’ of my local outdoor mall and transformed it into all things Tangerine Tango.

The ‘workstation’ where I got to play. I got to sample all of the pieces from the collection, and I  have to say I’m pretty impressed. Most of the time, Sephora collaborations seem to be lacking in the quality and color payoff department (Make Up For Ever, I’m looking at you). But this time they seemed to have nailed it.

For starters, that eyeshadow palette is HUGE. Much bigger than I thought it would be.

The blush duo is actually flattering (not garish like I thought it would be), and the glosses and nail polishes were a total surprise. They (the polishes and the glosses) are four different textures and finishes. I didn’t expect that. I was most impressed by the ‘matte’ orange nail polish, and the opaque lip gloss (which reminds me of Chanel’s Coromandel in color density).

I went home with a blush and a lovely gift card. Great experience. Now, I’m committed to getting most of the pieces of the Sephora + Pantone Universe. It’s definitely a noteworthy collection.

Product Review: Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream

This is one of those wonderful discoveries as a makeup artist… when you wonder where this product has been all your life. These days, I’m doing a lot of ‘outdoor’ shoots, and the combination of sunshine and salty sea air (we’re mostly at the beach) is wreaking havoc on the my model’s skin. Last week, I rubbed a little of this cream on a model’s flaky nose and POOF! Flakes gone.

The Claim:
“Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream soothes and moisturizes dry skin. This glycerin-based cream is enriched with vitamin E, vitamin B2, and camphor. It has a uniquely high glycerin content and absorbability achieved through a special manufacturing process which makes Yu-Be so effective. Use it to smooth rough, dry patches on hands, elbows, knees, and feet. It softens and reduces tough calluses, including hard, cracked heels, and helps heal and prevent split cuticles. It replenishes lost moisture from water damage or frequent hand washing, helps heal and minimize scarring from burns, and protects skin exposed to cold, wind, and water.”

Invented in 1957 by a Japanese pharmacist, Yu-Be is the #1 selling medicated, vitamin-enriched skincare cream in Japan today. Yu-Be is safe and effective for the whole family. The non-greasy formula absorbs quickly and stays locked in for hours.

1.7 oz tube

Pros:
It dries matte. This is HUGE. There’s nothing worse than trying to deal with a dry skin patch or problem and ending up with a greasy, slippery mess. I can put this cream on, and put makeup RIGHT over it, with no problem. There’s no shine, and no slip.

Cons:
It stinks. Okay… ‘stinks’ is a strong word. The formula is loaded with camphor. I don’t know if you guys have ever gotten a whiff of camphor, but it’s strong… and not so pleasant. The good news is, the scent disappears after about 5 minutes. But it can be a shock when you first put it on. It’s not a sexy smell at all, and takes some getting used to.

 2.5 oz jar

Ingredients:
Glycerin, Water, Isopropyl Myristate, Stearic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Triethanolamine, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Glycyrrhetinic Acid, Camphor, Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Hydrogenated coco-glycerides, Stearyl Alcohol, Polysorbate 80, EDTA, Methylparaben.

I like it. I like it a LOT. Almost immediately after I cracked the first tube, I hit the Sephora website and ordered a full jar and another tube. It’s one of those things that I think my kit should never be without.

I also tried the lip therapy:

I found it to be functional.  Not amazing… just functional. It gets the job done. I’d say the crown jewel is definitely the skin cream. I really like it. It’s a definite keeper for me.

Orange Crush

I’m going nuts over all things Orange these days. It’s an extremely flattering color on my warm skin tone, and I love the color in general. It screams warm weather and good times to me. Here are some of the ‘orange’ things that have caught my eye of late…

Love these tweezers! I’m always thinking in terms of stocking my kit and I thought to myself: These would NEVER get lost because they’re so brightly colored! And it would help if I’m working with other artists… so that we don’t get our tools mixed up.

Same for these eyelash curlers. Adorable! I need another daily curler anyway (my Shu Uemura curler finally kicked the bucket)… so these give me the perfect excuse to pick up another one.

How adorable is this! The new Clarisonic ‘Mia 2’ now comes in the bright shade of Mango (or orange… as you like). I think that one of these would add a ‘summer’ touch to any skin care regimen.

You guys know I love a good orange lippie:

Rouge d’ Armani Sheer in Coral 300
It’s a ‘must have’ lippie for me this Summer!

This is not a new product, but Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Cream in #10 is still my favorite of them all. I love that you can use it ‘anywhere’ (even in the hair for colored streaks), and I love its staying power.

Okay… so let’s just call this ‘makeup’ for the feet. LOL I love these espadrilles. If you’re going to go with a summer theme, you can’t beat these.

Those are my ‘orange crush’ selections for the season! Ciao for now!

Lip Service: Bare Minerals Pretty Amazing Lip Color

Bare Minerals just keeps getting better. I’m still not going near those powder foundations (no thank you), but their new Pretty Amazing Lip Color is going to keep me going back for more colors. It’s actually Pretty Amazing!

The SA described it as ‘Beaute Lip Stains with add Moisturizer.’ That was enough to sell me. The formula is extremely light, the color is opaque, and it wears effortlessly with no need for major touch ups throughout the day.

Look at this…

I know, right?! I got this corally pink color because it really stood out to me. It looks great on my warm skin tone. I’m going  back for more though. There’s no doubt about that. There’s a burgundy plum color that looks divine, and peach that I want to check out, and of course… a fabulous red.

Bare Minerals Pretty Amazing Lip Color retails for $16 each…

You can find out more about them at Sephora.

Mini Haul: Autumn Color Shopping

Have you guys ever shopped according to ‘theme?’ Sometimes, I find myself in a ‘mindset’ about certain colors and formulas, and seek out new ideas and products to mirror that mindset.

Recently, I spent some quality time with my Baby Sister (beautyandthebrowngirl.blogspot.com), and found some lovely additions from several unexpected brands:

Buxom ‘Lip Tarnish’ got my attention, partly because of the name… and partly because of the formula. I have one of the automatic lipstick/pencils from this line and found it to be pigmented and moisturizing and healing with a ‘hint of mint.’ I’d never seen these Lip Tarnishes before, so I decided to give them a closer look. I ended up with the color called ‘Busted.’

The pencil comes with a sharpener… love that. No stressing about getting the point back after you use it down.

I love this formula and this color. It comes out a reddish/brownish/coral on me. The color reminded me of a ‘red sunset. It’s unusual enough to really set it apart from other lip colors. I feel like it may even change color depending on what I pair it with. As you can see, it’s a bit of a ‘gloss’ pencil, and gives off a moisturizing and shiny finish. Highly recommend this one. I got mine at www.sephora.com

Next, I came across the Cargo Blush in Laguna:

This is one of the strongest peach blushes I’ve ever seen. It’s strong and matte… a little goes a LONG way. I was impressed with the density of the color, and the blush’s ability to stay distinctly peach, and not go pink or orange. I was instantly reminded of Autumn leaves, and the color they turn just before they fall…

Look.at.that! Awesome, right? I swatched it with a medium firmness… and got this strong color. I’d advise using a VERY light hand with this blush because it can go on really strong. I was thoroughly impressed with the depth and density of this formulation. Kudos to Cargo… they really got it right with this one. You can get this blush at cvs.com (http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/shop_product_detail.jsp?filterBy=&skuId=740502&productId=740502&navAction=jump&navCount=3)

Finally, I fell in love with Shiseido’s Shimmering Rouge lipstick in RS 308 (Iron Maiden):

Despite its name, I didn’t find this formula or this color to be very ‘shimmery’ at all. And I have to say, I’m rather happy about that. What I did find is that it’s a sheer to opaque wash of color in a very moisturizing formula.

I love this slightly pink/slightly purple hue… it reminded me of the color you might find in an Autumn Sunset. I got mine from www.nordstrom.com

That’s it! That’s my ‘Autumn Color Shopping’ haul. Ciao for now!
