I dug into the other NARS + Pierre Hardy Blush. These things are SO pigmented… a little bit goes a very long way.
I wanted to show you guys how I use the Hourglass Ambient Light Powders. Please keep in mind that these are ‘finishing’ powders. They are not meant to blot, control oil, or set foundations. they are the last thing that you ‘dust’ over the high (or low) points of your face after you’ve finished your makeup.
This was a rush job… it was important that I do SOMETHING to my face (I had a makeup meeting) but I had just ‘minutes’ to toss this together:
I know it’s been a while since I did one of these. Been busy with Agenda, and I’ve been fielding orders and what not. But, I did this look because it was quick and worked well in the Southern California heat…
YSL Cream Liner in Bronze Black (lashline/waterline)
I’ve been testing a bunch of products lately, and I’ve come across some REAL gems! I put together a collection of ‘summer essentials’ that are already getting a lot of use in my house… even though it’s not officially Summer yet:
NIA 24 Mineral Sunscreen.
LOVE this stuff. I love that it goes on, absorbs quickly and dries matte. One of the perks is that it not only protects your skin from the sun, it also (claims to) repairs past damage. I can moisturize as normal, and pop this on before going out, and it works wonderfully.
Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream
This is now a Kit essential. I am continually blown away by the ‘instant’ results of this formula. I can use it anywhere, on any dry spot, and it’s GONE. Just like that. Despite the medicine smell (which fades), I’ve stocked up on this cream for my kit. It’s friendly to all skin types (even my oily clients) and it works well under makeup.
Reve de Miel Lip Balm
This is another Kit essential. I love it because it has a MATTE finish. It works very well under lipstick, and it doesn’t scare off my male clients (many of whom HATE shiny lips). I can touch them up as needed, or groom them for headshots without them looking too ‘done.’ It’s on the expensive side, but a little bit goes a very long way. If you’re just looking for a regular lip balm and don’t mind the shine, I don’t recommend this. But if you want a matte finish, I’ve never found a balm better than this one for that purpose.
NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer
This is the best moisturizer on the market right now. Period. The coverage, the finish, and the wearability is unmatched. It works well on a wide range of skin tones, and skin types. It is my ‘go to’ foundation for this summer… I have nearly every color stocked in my kit. It’s that good.
YSL Cream Liner in Deep Black
This is, hands down, the best cream liner I’ve ever used. It goes on creamy, dries neutral (not matte or shiny) and STAYS PUT. You can wear it on your lashline or your waterline. I’ve used it on some of the most sensitive eyes, with no side effects. It stands up under major pressure in photoshoots, and just everyday life. I love this stuff. The performance more than justifies the price. Highly recommend.
Armani Eyes to Kill Stretch Mascara
This mascara has replaced my former favorite, the original Eyes to Kill. Love it. The formula is on the dry side, so there’s less concern about it making a mess around the eyes, when you use it on shorter lashes. I’ve gone through three tubes of this mascara already, and I show no signs of slowing down. Every time I use a different mascara on any given day, I wonder why I’m not using this one. I even have a ‘travel size’ in my makeup bag (I’ve been known to do an entire makeup look and leave the house without putting on mascara). It’s worth keeping around, wherever I go.
YSL Creme Blush (Praline)
This is my go-to blush this summer. The color is so flattering on a wide range of skin tones. The texture is a ‘dry’ cream, so it blends easily into a wide range of skin types. It can be used sheer, or layered for more color. I find myself reaching for it often. I prefer it in a pinch to powder blushes, because you don’t need the addition of a brush, so it’s a lot more portable in that respect. Definitely worth the purchase, at least for me. I’ve gotten quite a it of use out of it.
Sheer d’ Armani Lipstick (Coral 300)
I can’t believe HOW MUCH I actually use this lipstick. This color is perfect for my warm skin tone, so it’s my favorite of the bunch. But the formula comes in a wide range of other colors as well. The texture is light and seriously moisturizing. I keep one in my makeup bag just in case I have to run out the door and have no time for anything but mascara and a little lip color.
That’s it! That’s what’s in my proverbial ‘Summer Essentials Bag.’ Ciao for now!
You guys know how much I love orange, and gold, and stuff. LOL After the photoshoot I had to go to an event, so I put my favorite makeup colors together for this FOTD:
YSL Shocking Gel Liner in Deep Black (lashline)
Guerlain Retractable Pencil in Gold (01) (waterline)
I mixed shimmers for this… but kept the overall look ‘warm.’ Back to the Senna Palettes… love these things!
I got my NARS Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in Malaga, and it is PERFECT. Thank you to everyone who corrected me and recommended the color. It matches beautifully.
The coverage of this product is absolutely amazing. This tinted moisturizer behaves more like a foundation in coverage, but still sets soft like a tinted moisturizer. I am completely impressed.
You can find out more about NARS Radiant Tinted Moisturizer HERE.
…is too red for me. 😦 Looks like I’m going to have to go with Malaga anyway. When NARS International MUA Uzo did my makeup, she showed me how I tend to reach for ‘redder’ foundations as I correct ‘down’ — especially when I feel like I’m in between shades. She’s made me more conscious of paying attention to foundations that pull more ‘yellow’ on me. So I knew, as soon as I saw Seychelles against my skin, that it was wrong.
The tube is a decent size… about an ounce. And the product is very loose, so you don’t need much to cover a large area. I learned, when I popped the top, that you need to be careful not to prematurely squeeze because the product will come rushing out. It’s secured with a seal (to prevent it from popping open during shipment), but you’ll need to be cognizant that the top is always securely shut when you’re not using it because I can see this product getting everywhere.
That’s a really little dot (I’m zoomed in). You’d be surprised how much that little bit covered on the inside of my arm (which is closest to the color of my face). Now, as you can see, the color is very warm… and too red for me.
I’m actually glad that there’s such a disparity in color in this case, because you can really see the coverage of this tinted moisturizer. It’s a solid medium coverage… .like a lot of foundations. It’s also not really ‘oily’ so I can see this working on a wide range of skin tones (even my oily skin). I also don’t think that dry skin girls have much to worry about, because this formula seems very balanced.
That’s the full swatch. So yeah… this color is not for me. But the formula definitely is. I’ve already contacted NARS about returning it. When I get Malaga (fingers crossed that it’ll work for me), I’ll (once again) swatch it all to be damned, and let you guys know what I think!
*In case some of you are wondering why I haven’t tested these in person, they don’t appear to be available at any of my local retail outlets. I’ve found them online, but haven’t physically seen them at a counter or in a store yet.*
I’ve hesitated to put up a post about this product, because until yesterday, it hadn’t hit the official website. It hit Nordstrom’s website a couple of weeks ago. But I wanted to see what NARS was going to do independently before making a decision about it.
Because shopping online for foundations/tinted moisturizers can often be a costly (and wasteful) experience, I refused to ‘guess’ at my color until enough people had purchased, tested, and swatched this item. I started digging around for photos at New York Fashion Week… and found this from Phillip Lim:
All of the models looked flawless, but not ‘done’. I understand that this tinted moisturizer has a nice medium coverage, not unlike the Laura Mercier version (my dislike of that product’s ‘smell’ has been well documented). So, I finally dug into the old wallet and ordered it ‘Seychelles.’ That one is the closest to my natural coloring. The color before it (Malaga) is too pink, and the one after it (Martinique) is too red.
My product gets here some time next week. When it does, I’ll be sure to swatch it all to be damned, and tell you guys what I think. Ciao for now!
