Cleansing Oils: MAC vs Noriko

I can only take half credit for this. After reading a post from Perilously Pale, I decided to give MAC’s cleansing oil a whirl.

I have to say, I like it a lot.

But I also like Noriko’s Cleansing Oil. So I decided to use them one day behind the other, to see if I could choose a favorite…

MAC’s Cleansing Oil is 5 ounces. Norkio is 7.8 ounces. MAC’s version is about $25, and the Noriko version is $29.

One thing that MAC has going for it is appearance. The oil comes in a lovely white box (with a slick black interior), and the bottle is easy to handle and use. I also like that the oil is perfectly clear. I was worried that there might be Mineral Oil in the formula, and was pleased to find that there wasn’t.

Ingredients: Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, PEG-20 Glyceryl, Triisostearate, Squalane, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Germ Oil, Tocopherol, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Water (Aqua Purificata) Purified, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Limonene

Okay, so with the exception of a couple of things that make me nervous (the first ingredient) and a couple of other chemicals.. it seems pretty harmless. It smells lightly of lemons, and it performs very well…. taking off every trace of makeup and rinsing clean.

The Noriko Cleansing Oil is locally made (by a little lady in Northridge), and carries an actual shelf life (no preservatives). The packaging is .. ehh. And the oil is ‘dark’ in color, which is … well, it’s whatever. But the smell… omg the smell! It smells like citrus heaven. The  main ingredient is Rice Bran Oil, which is light and dissolves everything. Like MAC, it rinses clean and leaves no makeup  behind.

I’m thoroughly impressed with both of these cleansing oils, but for smell purposes (and the fact that I can mostly understand every ingredient), I’m partial to Noriko.

Now, that is not to say that I won’t be using this MAC Cleansing Oil down to the last drop… but I think I’ve found a gem in Noriko.

So yeah… that’s my Final Answer.
