FOTD: Brown Pencil Smoke

I wanted to see just how well the new Make Up For Ever Aqua Shadow Pencils would perform in a pinch. I tossed together a daytime smoke using just the brown pencil and the peach shimmer one…

Professional Grade: Twice as Nice

You guys remember the twins…

I did their makeup last Halloween…
Well, another year has gone by for them, and they wanted me to do their makeup for their birthday. So they popped over the house and told me what they wanted for the big night. Because of our scheduling conflicts, their makeup had to last for 16+ hours. So I used products that I knew would last on them.
Nina wanted bronzed skin, an extreme smokey eye and nude lips.
Guerlain Parure Extreme Foundation (Dore 23)
Jemma Kidd Showstopper Water Resistant Bronzer (contour)
Armani Sheer Bronzer in #5 (blush)
Jemma Kidd Dewy Finish in Rose Gold (highlight)
MUFE Mist + Fix
Armani Eyes To Kill Silk Eyeshadow in #13 (black)
Armani Eyes To Kill Silk Eyeshadow in #11 (highlight)
Ardell Half Lashes
Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Zero (waterline)
Armani Eyes To Kill Mascara
Urban Decay 24/7 Lip Pencil in Heavy
Rouge d’ Armani in Beige #106
Shalya wanted a soft smoky eye (it was my idea to incorporate navy blue), and a statement pink lip.
Guerlain Parure Extreme Foundation (Dore 23)
Koh Gen Do Translucent Powder
MAC Blush in Pink Cult
MUFE Mist + Fix
MAC Paint Pot in Painterly
Armani Eyes To Kill Silk Eyeshadow in Blast Of Blue
Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Zero
Naimies False Lashes
MAC Lip Pencil in Boldly Bare
Armani Lip Gloss in Pink 505
I was on standby in case the girls needed touchups. By 9pm they’d had the makeup on about 8 hours, and they said it was still holding with no problem. I sent them with the lip products to make sure they stayed looking fresh.

FOTD: I don’t even know what happened here…

…I started out with one idea, ended up doing something else, got confused along the way and well…

The Accidental Dupe

Since I’m on this kick to shop my stash, I thought I’d break out MAC’s Bough Grey (from the Liberty Of London collection) and just blend it out with a little bit of Cloud Nine (Kjaer Weis). What I realized is that it looks exactly like Rock & Republic’s Emerge.

Well… almost like it. Emerge is more pigmented and blends out a bit more easily. Bough Grey needs to be packed, but once it’s on, it wears all day. I wore it today with no primer, and it wore beautifully.

On the rest of the face:
Armani Designer Face Shaping Foundation
MAC Loose Powder in Medium/Dark
MAC in Lilyland Pearlmatte Powder
MAC Eyeshadow in Bough Grey
Kjaer Weis Eyeshadow in Cloud Nine
MAC Eyeliner Pencil in Smolder
MUFE Lash Fibers
Chanel Intimitable Mascara
Chanel Lip Pencil in Cognac
Ellis Faas Milky Lips in L203
*That roughness near my jawline is the result of my currently healing skin. It’s still VERY dry in some areas and tends to ash out with even the lightest dusting of powder. On the up side, it didn’t look like that in natural light. The flash just accentuated the roughness. I’m healing faster than I thought I would. I should be ship shape by week’s end!*

MUFE Rouge Intense: #15

For those of you wanting to get Violetta… try this while you wait. MUFE Rouge Artist Intense in #15
It’s described as a pearly violet, but when you look at the color sticker on the bottom and the actual stick… this lipstick screams goth PURPLE.

Not to worry, it actually translates quite nicely on the skin.

It is NOT a dupe for Violetta, so don’t think that you can replace one with the other. But it’s a nice comparable shade. It’s also a bit darker, for folks who are not a fan of bright purples or fuschias. I like the Rouge Artist Intense line, but I must say that it can be a bit drying at times. These lipsticks respond nicely to well moisturized lips, so don’t skimp on the lip balm. They wear for a very long time, and don’t bleed or fade (or at least, they haven’t while I’ve been wearing them). This color, the pearly gold, the orange and the red are my favorites (I don’t remember their #’s off the top of my head). You can get ’em at Sephora for $19 a pop, or at a local beauty supply store that honors the pro discount…
And when all else fails, place a call to MUFE in New York and tell ’em to hook you up!

As promised, here are the swatches of the MUFE Aqua Creams that I scored at THE MAKEUP SHOW.

15 (Shimmery Taupe)
10 (Orange shot through with a gold)
1 (Dark Metallic Grey)
20 (Royal Blue)
22 (Intense Green)

18 (Shimmery Lilac)
19 (Royal Purple)
3 (Silver)
14 (Warm Golden Brown)

And my crown jewel: 8 (Red)
Note that all of these swatches are ONE SWIPE PER COLOR. These creams are beyond fabulous. You can sheer them down, or build them up. They set almost immediately, but can be moved with a little bit of lotion or cream. I use them with my fingers. I used a brush ONCE to get under the lash line. I imagine you can also use them as an eyeliner if you’re fast enough. Really, there’s no end to their versatility. I remain impressed with these.
