I was feeling a little ‘vintage’ about the eyes, and wanted to do a smoky eye that involved absolutely no shimmer. I wanted a daytime look, so I swapped black shadow for matte brown to get the job done.
Remember when I said I was saving the Burberry Velvet Foundation for cooler weather? Well, the morning was so overcast and chilly… that I figure it’s Mother Nature’s way of telling me to use it right now! So I did.
I recently purchased a few goodies from Burberry, with a stronger focus on cold weather. I wanted to try the Velvet Foundation and Concealer. I also picked up a Lip Mist in Brown Sugar (to wear right now).
It’s interesting that this is named Brown Sugar. There’s nothing really ‘brown’ about it (much like Copper is more nude and not warm at all… like a copper color would be). It’s more of a very warm peach, with the slightest hint of rose. I love it. I don’t really care what it’s called. 🙂
I went from having no access to Burberry Beauty to the company setting up shop just minutes away from me… I can see this is going to be a problem. It’s a tremendous help to be able to swatch and test everything in person. I would never have made the same choices online. There are some colors that I thought would look great on me that just… don’t. And thanks to the lovely Elina, there are some colors and formulas that I would have never trusted to look good on me… that actually look amazing. She’s so knowledgeable… she hasn’t steered me wrong yet!
From the left: Lip Glow in Mallow Pink, Sheer Eye Shadow in Gold Trench, Light Glow in Russet, and Lip Mist in Stormy Pink.
Opaque/sheer finish. Lovely pigment. Completely non-sticky. Feels very comfortable on and wears well for several hours before there is any need for touching up.
This is my favorite ‘no makeup makeup’ for my eyes. It wears nearly invisible on me, but gives my eyes a ‘glow’ that looks like I was born with it. I love this shadow. The shimmer is so subtle that you can’t tell if anything is really there or not. It’s excellent.
This blush so gorgeous! It’s not quite rose… not quite bronze… and has no shimmer so it wears like ‘skin.’ It’s absolutely wonderful. A little goes a long way on my warm skin tone. I can wear this with a tinted moisturizer and a little mascara and gloss.. and be ‘done.’
Despite the strong color in the tube, this is gorgeous semi sheer ‘warm pink.’ I would have never chosen this color on my own… and certainly not online. But Elina had me try it on… and I was sold. It’s so easy to wear. Lip Mists are highly moisturizing, so you don’t even need to put a balm under this. That swatch is on totally dry lips. Definite keeper.
I’ve been pacing myself (I think) with Burberry, but there’s lots more I want to try. I’ll keep you posted as I learn more about this lovely makeup line. Ciao for now!
Since we’re heading into Spring in just a few days (it’s actually already pretty warm in Los Angeles), I been actively seeking lighter formulations in all things makeup… that still perform like their heavier ‘winter-appropriate’ counterparts. My search led me to the local Burberry counter.
I’m not that familiar with the brand; lack of physical access has kind of kept me away from it. I really like to try things in person, so that I can make an informed decision.
I ended up with three of the four basics that I think perfectly pull together a classic Burberry Face: Fresh Glow Primer/Highlighter, Sheer Foundation in Trench #10, and Lip Mist in Copper.
I also wanted the mascara, but they were out of stock (so it’s been ordered for delivery next week). I decided to pass on the concealer, because I have a ton of concealers… and honestly what I have works just fine for me.
Here’s what I learned about Burberry Foundations: They go from yellow to pink to yellow to pink and so on. So Trench #9 is more pink, while Trench #10 is distinctly yellow, and Trench #11 is darker with more pink (to neutralize the yellow). I swatched both #10 and #11 (because I wanted to make sure I got the perfect match), and I’m definitely #10.
I was initially on the fence about Fresh Glow. I’ve seen some reviews where it’s described as ‘pink’ — and reviewers said that it imparted a pink glow. It doesn’t. It’s actually a neutral shimmer (neither pink nor yellow), and nearly completely disappears when applied directly to they skin. It brightens the skin by adding the tiniest light reflecting ‘film’ over the surface, and won’t sink into lines or wrinkles.
