Mind + Body Beauty: Juice For Life

Since my juice cleanse in January, a lot has happened. My husband bought me a masticating juicer, and we’ve been experimenting with all kinds of fruits and veggies and nuts and what not. Truth be told, it’s more me than him. I do a cleanse once a month (to hit the reset button on my body), and I’m a huge fan of ginger shots.

Well, hubby decided that he wanted to do a cleanse for a day, so I put together three of my favorite basic recipes.

Orange Drink:
Oranges/Lemons/Ginger/Pineapple/Papaya
(alternative additions: Carrots/Mint/Grapefruit)
Green Drink:
Kale/Cucumber/Arugula/Romaine/Lemon/Ginger
(Possible Additions: Spinach/Dandelion/Fuji Apple/Broccoli/Cayenne)
Protein Smoothie:
Cashews/Organic Soy Milk/Organic Cacao Powder
(Possible Additions: Cinnamon/Dates/Filtered Water)
For his juicing needs, he had the orange drink as breakfast, two green drinks, and two protein smoothies. I normally do an orange drink, three green drinks, and one protein smoothie. There are other little drinks that I’ll make for sipping in between (Cucumber/Lemon/Mint is one of my favorites).
He’s at the end of his one day cleanse, and seems to be okay (I’ve been checking on him throughout the day.) Those amazing bottles are from Aquasana. They are 18 ounces and work like a dream. I’ve used other (smaller) bottles, but these are definitely my favorite.

Beauty On The Inside: 3 Day Juice Fast Results

As promised, I’m back for a progress report after the 3 day juice fast.

I have to say, this is one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. With the exception of the pizza craving incident on Day 2, I didn’t have any issues. There’s so much juice to drink that I was never hungry (or thirsty, for that matter). And because there’s so much water in each of fruits and veggies that are juiced, I didn’t drink much water during this fast. But I was never dehydrated, and my insides were scrubbed completely clean.

By the end of Day 3, I had so much energy… it was unreal. My workouts were amazing, and I felt ‘up’ all the time. I got less sleep, but I was never sleepy. I was waking up an hour or so earlier than my normal rise time, and I would wake up ready to take on the day.

My skin cleared up beautifully. I had 3 pimples after Day 1… they disappeared completely by Day 2. People kept asking me if I changed my skin care or makeup. Seriously. It was insane.

Physically, I lost 4 pounds. I lost half and inch on my waist, and a full inch on my hips.

My favorite juices were Fantasize (#1) and Indulge (#6). I liked Energize, but not so MUCH of it (three bottles). Replenish (#3) was by far the worst for me. It was thick and sweet, and the beet aftertaste was just too much for me. I didn’t like it at all.

Otherwise, it’s a fantastic fast. I had a really good time doing this, and I really want to do it again. Apparently, you can do this fast as part of regular maintenance, or whenever you feel sluggish or run down, and just need to ‘reset’ your body.

Put me down as a fan. I’m definitely doing this again.
