Sheesh I’m so glad this week is over. So much everything. I’m worn out from the inside out. Lots and lots of yoga got taught and practiced. Lots of Habibi. Lots of… stuff. I kinda need everyone to STHU and leave me alone for a little while. Here’s hoping for a moment to breathe and some good vibes and what not.
I picked up one of those Cover FX oil drops and guess what? IT’S NOT TERRIBLE! I thought my oily skin was going to be like ‘Woman WTH is wrong with you?’ But the oil is so thin that it melts into any foundation (so far) pretty effortlessly. And my skin ends up not producing as much oil, because it doesn’t feel like it needs to. Hooray for balance! And yes, theoretically I always knew this (I’ve been working with this skin and trying to get it to behave since puberty), but emotionally there was no way in the world I was putting an oil in my foundation. That is pretty ridiculous because I use plenty of face oils in my skin care routine… listen, I’m not saying it makes sense. 🙂
That’s Charlotte Tilbury’s Legendary Brows (Cara) on that face. ALSO NOT TERRIBLE! I’m so glad because I am leaning further toward dislike for that mascara. Every time I use it now, there’s some fresh drama. Really not a fan. I’ll do a full review on the Legendary Brows in a bit.
The rest of the face is Illamasqua Skin Base in AU with three Cover FX drops (Vitamin E + Chamomile: Calming). Charlotte Tilbury pressed powder in Medium. Armani Black Ecstasy Mascara, and Haughty Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Live Free or Die.
Quick look today. I had to get out the door quickly and just wanted to look ‘fresh’…
Burberry Sheer Foundation in Trench #10
Burberry Concealer in Sand Beige
Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Powder (01)
Chanel Blush in Malice
Haughty Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Peace (lids blended up past crease)
Haughty Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Devotion (layered over Peace)
Clinique High Impact Mascara
Lipstick Queen Lipstick in Saint Coral
I was feeling a little ‘vintage’ about the eyes, and wanted to do a smoky eye that involved absolutely no shimmer. I wanted a daytime look, so I swapped black shadow for matte brown to get the job done.
Diorskin Airflash Foundation (500)
Laura Mercier Baked Radiance Powder (01)
Haughty Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Determination (lids/under waterline)
Haughty Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Ambition (blended through crease)
Haughty Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Strength (lashline/under waterline)
Urban Decay 24/7 Gel Liner in Perversion (waterline)
Volume de Chanel Mascara
Burberry Lip Mist in Brown Sugar
This time I used two of the metallic shades from the new Haughty Cosmetics eyeshadow collection. I used Courage (orange metallic) and Bravery (olive metallic).

Burberry Lip Mist in Copper
I pulled two of the most neutral shades from the new Haughty Eyeshadow Collection, Confidence (matte) and Beauty (shimmer)
I layered them with Strength (black matte) for a simple look.
Kanebo Sensai Foundation (204.5)
Koh Gen Do Face Powder
Becca Mineral Blush in Wild Honey
Haughty Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Confidence (lashline to brow)
Haughty Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Beauty (lids)
Haughty Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Strength (lashline)
Chanel Eye Pencil in Taupe (waterline)
Volume de Chanel Mascara
Chantecaille Lipstick in China Rose
Now, after eight hours of wear, there was no creasing… but there was some fading. I wore these shadows with no primer. So it’s possible that primer will help them stay put longer.
8 hours later:
Talk about the little company that could…
Haughty Cosmetics… the brand that brought you the weightless opaque lip gloss… has done it again. The company with the enormous heart (50% of all sales go to help prevent domestic violence), has released 12 new eyeshadows (6 matte… 6 shimmer) that challenge the quality of even the most established makeup brands!
There are pre-made eyeshadow quads and singles, and refillable versions as well. Haughty offers the MAC equivalent of ‘pro pans’ of shadow, to mix and match as you please.

Every single shadow is rich and creamy and pigmented. They blow some mid-end to luxury grade eyeshadows out of the water. Really. And with the addition of shopping for a good cause, you really can’t go wrong.
I thought I’d start a ‘favorites’ series for 2013… and highlight one item from each category of any given beauty routine.
So here are my January Favorites:
Skin: Koh Gen D Oriental Plants Balm
This stuff is so good. I use it for just about everything now, from emergency eye cream and lip balm, to a little TLC for clients with really dry skin. It’s amazing. It’s light and versatile and has become an absolute keeper for me.
Foundation: Dior Skin NUDE
My skin has been up, down, and all around the briar patch… and it’s just not behaving right now. Dior Skin NUDE foundation keeps it looking hydrated and smooth. And because I’ve been dry lately (instead of my normal oily self), it stays put with no problem.
Powder: Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder
I’ve made no secret of my absolute love for this product. A little bit goes such a long way. It sets my foundation without ‘adding’ to anything on my face. Definite keeper.
Mascara: Chanel Volume de Chanel Mascara
This stuff is amazing. I seriously can’t believe how awesome this mascara is. Chanel really hit this one out of the park. They need to just discontinue all those other formulas and just keep this one. It’s absolutely fabulous.
Lip Gloss: Haughty Cosmetics Polish It Off
I’ve been using this stuff nearly every day, like it is just going out of style. Polish it off is the most perfect nude… ever. Although it’s a gloss, the formula is totally opaque so my lips don’t shine through. And it’s completely weightless. I love this lip gloss. At the rate I’m going, I’ll need to get another tube soon. Just this gloss and a little mascara… and I’m good to go.
Those are my January Favorites! Ciao for now!
Those of you who have been following the blog for a while knows that this brand tops my list of favorite lipglosses. Haughty Cosmetics is one of those brands that delivers a great product for a great cause (50% of sales go to Domestic Violence Prevention).
I have paid every single one of these glosses (and there are a lot of them) forward in a couple of giveaways. I absolutely love them.
Well, the company is having a SALE through Daily Candy!
You can view it here:
… or dark grey and light grey. I used the new MAC Eyeshadow in Dark Dare, and a little Senna, to pull this look together.
Senna Oil Free Setting Powder in Vanilla
Senna Blush in Semi Sweet
MAC In Extra Dimension Eyeshadow in Dark Dare (lids/under waterline)
Senna Eyeshadow in Sugar (crease)
Louise Young Eyeshadow in Ting (browbone)
Haughty Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Inspire
My skin is getting better, thank GOODNESS! It’s still pretty rough around the edges, but not nearly as bad as last week. With any luck, I’ll have this madness under control in another week or so. Here’s hoping…
Anyway, to the makeup! I went back to the Laura Mercier Lingerie Eye & Cheek Palette. This time, I used some of the darker colors:
Armani Face Fabric (5.0)
Armani Translucent Powder
Laura Mercier Blush in Fresh Peach
Laura Mercier Eyeshadow in Rich Cocoa (lids)
Laura Mercier Eyeshadow in African Violet (crease)
Laura Mercier Eyeshadow in Buff Pearl (browbone)
Rock & Republic Eyeshadow in Fatalistic (lashline)
Chanel Eye Pencil in Rose Platine (waterline)
Armani Eyes to Kill Stretch Mascara
Haughty Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Roll With It
