Charlotte’s Film Noir Nights

Holiday Makeup Season is upon us, and Charlotte Tilbury got way out in front with a fantastic offering that looks like it’s worth more than the asking price.

Film Noir Nights is a Lipstick/Eyeliner Duo, that features her latest addition to the Matte Revolution Collection: Opium Noir. It also comes with her Iconic Rock n’ Kohl Liner in Bedroom Black. Considering the fact that my original liner is basically an unusable nub, it was definitely worth it for me to purchase both for $49.

The items alone make the purchase worth it. But Charlotte went one further with this amazing lighted mirrored box:

I was so impressed when I opened it! Charlotte held true to her Old Hollywood Glamour inspiration with this set. It’s simply stunning and is meant to make an amazing gift to yourself or anyone who appreciates a quality makeup set.

Opium Noir reads like a black-based brick red in the tube, but it’s brighter on my skin. I thought it would go nearly goth based on the bullet color, but it doesn’t. It wears a true deep Hollywood 1930’s smoky red (what Tom Ford’s past offering should have been) in a black and white photo. Charlotte seems clear on what she was going for, and this lipstick does not disappoint.

I LOVE it. Charlotte really outdid herself on this one. The rest of the face is all Charlotte Tilbury: Magic Foundation (#9), Pressed Powder (#2), Filmstar Bronze & Glow (original), Rock n’ Kohl in Bedroom Black, and Full Fat Lashes Mascara.

Lip Service: Charlotte Tilbury- THE QUEEN

So this frantic (as is Charlotte’s way) email arrives in my inbox like BUY THE QUEEN NOW! So I give in to the shenanigans and a massive box with a little tube of lipstick arrives a day later.

This color is SO DAMN BRIGHT. Not in an awesome strawberry pink flattering-on-everyone bright. More like an “I did my makeup in a dimly lit club bathroom” bright, and then shocked everyone when the lights came up. The shade looks cheap and tawdry on me, which is not saying much for the British monarch that it’s named after. Poor Elizabeth. Charlotte is basically celebrating that heinous color named something awful like Flamingo Passion or some crap, that your grandmother has insisted on wearing since Estee Lauder first created it in 1912. Uncute.

I had to alter it with Hollywood Honey lip liner to make it look presentable on my face. It works with a good warm reddish brown. But alone it just looks like I put on my makeup in the dark and picked up the wrong shade by accident. Chanel’s 2016 interpretation of this color (Luxuriant) is a MUCH better bet in terms of pigment and overall flattery. If you’re up to choose, pick that one instead.

FOTD: Easy Friday

Sheesh I’m so glad this week is over. So much everything. I’m worn out from the inside out. Lots and lots of yoga got taught and practiced. Lots of Habibi. Lots of… stuff. I kinda need everyone to STHU and leave me alone for a little while. Here’s hoping for a moment to breathe fotd easy fridayand some good vibes and what not.

I picked up one of those Cover FX oil drops and guess what? IT’S NOT TERRIBLE! I thought my oily skin was going to be like ‘Woman WTH is wrong with you?’ But the oil is so thin that it melts into any foundation (so far) pretty effortlessly. And my skin ends up not producing as much oil, because it doesn’t feel like it needs to. Hooray for balance! And yes, theoretically I always knew this (I’ve been working with this skin and trying to get it to behave since puberty), but emotionally there was no way in the world I was putting an oil in my foundation. That is pretty ridiculous because I use plenty of face oils in my skin care routine… listen, I’m not saying it makes sense. 🙂

That’s Charlotte Tilbury’s Legendary Brows (Cara) on that face. ALSO NOT TERRIBLE! I’m so glad because I am leaning further toward dislike for that mascara. Every time I use it now, there’s some fresh drama. Really not a fan. I’ll do a full review on the Legendary Brows in a bit.

The rest of the face is Illamasqua Skin Base in AU with three Cover FX drops (Vitamin E + Chamomile: Calming). Charlotte Tilbury pressed powder in Medium. Armani Black Ecstasy Mascara, and Haughty Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Live Free or Die.

Happy Friday.

FOTD: Memorial Day

*rubbing eyes*

I’m up.

Holidays mean nothing to the small business owner; What needs to be done needs to be fotd memorial daydone. So emails, promotions, sorting, order details and caffeine boost oversight is the order of the day. Oooh to the caffeine boost. I’m so excited y’all, and I might have to take down that disclaimer about using it at night because I used it Friday night and went RIGHT TO SLEEP like normal. Then again, caffeine really doesn’t have that jolting effect on me like it does other people so there’s that. Maybe I’m a mutant. 😉

I took a minute for makeup ’cause I promised a dawn coffee meet and I wanna look like I tried a little bit. I kept the skin simple with MAC Face & Body (I’ll spare you the spiel today) and Charlotte Tilbury Pressed Powder in Medium. Jury is still out on that powder. I love the finish but I’m not sure if it’s too much for my oily skin. I still prefer Innisfree, but I’m trying to be open. Highlight is Becca Pearl (all that shine is completely manufactured for a change) and mascara is Armani Black Ecstasy. Lips are a combo of Lipstick Queen’s Seven Deadly Sins in Lust and Envy. I set the whole thing with Farmacy Skin Dew because… dewy!

Yes, the brows look a bit crazed on purpose. Or maybe not on purpose. It’s one of those things that got outta control with too much ‘definition’ and I was dangerously close to looking like an Instagram Lemming. So I brushed brushed brushed all the product out and decided that it was just gonna be what it’s gonna be. So there it is.

Let me get back to work. Love, Light, and Laughter… Always.
