Fabulous Felines: Leopard Luxe

I broke down for this latest MAC collection (Fabulous Felines) and got the Leopard Luxe quad:
Nice colors, right? Well, admire them in the pan — because that is NOT how they transfer to the skin. The colors are actually quite sheer and the matte is a bit chalky. I imagine that it’s just par for the course for the quality of MAC eyeshadows, which has been on the steady decline for the past decade or so. A company that once prided itself on offering top quality for professional artists, MAC has essentially been downgraded to stereotypical drugstore quality (excluding Wet n’ Wild Iconic palettes, which actually boast BETTER SHADOWS than MAC. Just imagine). I was able to get a little pigmentation on my Leopard Luxe look, with the help of a MUFE paint pot in the Bronze color:
On the rest of the face:
By Terry Foundation in #8
Shu Uemura Eyebrow Pencil in Seal Brown
POP Beauty Hot Pot Gel Liner (top and bottom of the lashline, tightlined and on the waterline)
MAC Studio Fix Lash Mascara
NARS Bronze Multiple in Rapa Nui
MAC MSF Blush in Light Over Dark
Every time I want to believe in MAC eyeshadows, I’m dragged back to the reality that things are not the same as when the brand first burst on the scene, and maybe they never will be. I still really enjoy the MAC pigments, and lipsticks. Every now and again, I’ll come across a blush that just takes my breath away. But more often than not, I find myself reaching for dupes from brands who still place quality above quantity. I know that MAC is more of a ‘fashion brand’ than a luxury brand, but I’m sure that does not justify the lackluster effort put into the eyeshadow collections. Pigmentation, Smooth Application, and Blendability. Really, is that so much to ask?
